Have you tried BranchOut yet?

Many will tell you that LinkedIn has been invaluable in their job search and an excellent site for networking among professionals. For anyone who knows anything about social networking it was thought to be only a matter of time until another professional site was launched.

BranchOut a new ‘App’ for Facebook has been launched.  It allows you to connect to your friends professionally and links you with others who you may have an interest professionally to connect with, but with all social networking sites there are a number of problems this may cause.

Firstly LinkedIn works because your professional connections can not see your drunk statuses and embarrassing pictures. They do not know you privately and can respect you as a professional. If you decide to join BranchOut the friends you will be connecting with are going to know you privately. When you’re looking for your next role will you want to be chosen for the job because you have the skill and ability, or because your mate works there and thinks your cool from the Uni days and raced each other down the street in a shopping trolley.

Although BranchOut may take off and could be more popular than LinkedIn for me LinkedIn is the best way for professionals to network and find new jobs. BranchOut is still so new that is hard to predict how it will take off. So in the mean time join BranchOut explore the app and see how you find it compared to LinkedIn. If you get a job through it…great but maybe do a little Facebook editing first.

About these ads
  1. I couldn’t agree more, I do a lot of social networking but I’ve avoided Branch Out for that very reason. LinkedIn is always the one for me professionally.
