3 Ways To Build Relationships With Your Connections!

Building a relationship with a connection you have on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter can be a timely process but the benefits can be very rewarding. If you nurture your online relationships well, you could gain connections with influential people and in the long run, even get a job from it.

1.When asking to connect to someone on LinkedIn do not to use the generic opening line as it is an impersonal template. Try to open with a line which automatically pull them in. Maybe you met at a social event or like some work they have done. Acting in this way will encourage them to accept your request rather than be ignored like the many others who may have tried before.

2.After you have connected  join discussions they are involved in and show a genuine interest in the conversation topic. Join related groups, comment on posts and write your own (relevent) content such as a blog.

3.After a few weeks/months (depending on how often you use social media) invite your connection for a coffee to talk about a topic you have recently talked about or even invite them to a networking event relevant to your field thus taking the pressure off you to talk on a one to one basis the whole time.

Obviously this is more directed towards LinkedIn and there are other ways to help build relationships with your contacts. Asking them for advice is an excellent approach as most people are likely to find that quite flattering. However be careful not to overload your contact with ‘likes’ and reposts as this might be seen as stalker behaviour and get you removed from their connections list. Happy social Networking!
